Imre Madách: La Tragedio de L’Homo / The Tragedy of Man (3)

The key scene I blogged about in Esperanto is on my web site:
The Tragedy of Man
(Scene 13), translated from the Hungarian by George Szirtes
The entire translation can be found elsewhere online:
The
Tragedy of Man; translated from the Hungarian by George Szirtes; introduction
by George F. Cushing; illustrations by Mihály Zichy. New York: Püski
Publishing, 1988.
Szirtes has his own web site:
George Szirtes Website
His translation can be compared to an old translation in the public domain that was intentionally rendered in antiquated English:
The
Tragedy of Man, translated by William N. Loew. New York: Arcadia Press, 1908.

It is exciting to fit developments in Hungarian literature since the mid-19th century into the overall picture of futurology, science fiction, and utopian/dystopian literature, with the larger picture of intellectual history in mind and critical theory more specifically. My new bibliography reflects this project:
Futurology,
Science Fiction, Utopia, and Alienation in the Work of Imre Madách,
György Lukács, and Other Hungarian Writers: Select Bibliography
