Discussing Dystopia: June 6th launch event for Voyage to Kazohinia
I will be one of the participants in this event. All are invited to this free event. No preregistration is necessary. If you are reading this blog, I would appreciate hearing from you if you plan to attend, but this is not required. Here is the announcement:
Discussing Dystopia: June 6th launch event for Voyage to Kazohinia—
a classic that has been compared to Brave New World and Gulliver’s Travels
Wednesday, June 6, 7 pm.
Consulate General of Hungary
223 East 52nd Street, New York, NY
Sponsored by the Balassi Institute
(Hungarian Cultural Center)
In addition to readings and a short clip from Gábor Zsigmond Papp’s documentary film on the novel, the centerpiece of the book launch will be a panel discussion on dystopian literature past, present, and future. Moderated by novelist Edie Meidav (author of Lola, California and writer in residence at Bard College), the discussion will feature guests including writers Benjamin Hale (author of The Evolution of Bruno Littlemore) and Anna North (author of America Pacifica), Gregory Moynahan (Associate Professor of History, Bard College), Francesco Crocco (Assistant Professor of English, Borough of Manhattan Community College), and Ralph Dumain (independent scholar, librarian, and creator of www.autodidactproject.org).
More on the discussion’s moderator: Edie Meidav is the author of the critically acclaimed novels Lola, California, Crawl Space, and The Far Field: A Novel of Ceylon. Her work has appeared in Conjunctions, Guernica, Ms., The Village Voice, and elsewhere. Writer in residence at Bard College, she has received Lannan and Howard fellowships, the Bard Fiction Prize for Writers Under 40, a Fulbright, and a Kafka Award for best novel by an American woman. She divides her time between California and New York.
